I do not recommend moving into Waterloo Region Housing buildings. I've been in my current building for a little over 20 years and I have dealt with so many issues here. Tenants accusing me of things I haven't done, assaulting me/damaging my unit, threatening to kill me as well as another tenant, causing extremely loud noise disturbance in my unit very late, and just other types of unacceptable bizarre behaviour. I've had one tenant get extremely aggressive and violent with me more than once. The issue with a lot of tenants in this type housing is that the majority of people have serious mental health conditions they also drink and do drugs so we're talking about people who can have very unpredictable unstable behaviour. When a person has been in the hospital for mental health issues and they get released and have nowhere to go they get moved into this type housing because they're considered homeless and some people are not well enough mentally to be living on their own but they get released from hospital for whatever reasons. Yes this type housing is much cheaper than other rentals but you're going to pay for it emotionally/mentally with issues you'll have to deal with so it's a high price for one's mental health in having to deal with so much negativity. When a tenant is causing issues in a certain building they'll just transfer the person to a different building so the issues aren't being necessarily dealt with they're just hoping a change of geography will help I guess so in other words they just shuffle around the troublemakers to different buildings and let a new set of people deal with this person. WRH has a no smoking policy but if you think you're going to be moving into a smoke-free building think again because they have certain tenants grandfathered which to me is dumb because any new tenants who move in and see other tenants smoking in their units they're going to want to also because they're going to feel it's unfair and that's exactly what happens. The building I'm in there have been so many new tenants that have moved in and are smoking not only cigarettes but pot in their unit, on the patio/balcony when they're not supposed to be, a lot of this I have personally witnessed. So you have to deal with tenants at times who have attitude who think they're all that and then some they don't have to follow rules you tell somebody to stop doing a certain something what they're doing to you and they'll keep doing it, for example you can say no to a person about something and they will keep asking very childish behaviour that's what children do they don't know the meaning of no they'll keep asking for whatever but you expect more from grown ass adults. We're talking about a lot of immature type people who don't know how to live properly around others no respect for others. Some tenants are just the bully type we have one tenant in particular at this building where I live constantly causing issues for people being a bully, one tenant's family member won't even come to this building and visit her because of this person and how they've been towards them, that's pretty sad when fellow tenants in a building are disrupting your life to the point where family members won't come and visit you.

This isn't a good place to live and NOT SAFE!!!
WE HAVE TO SECURITY GUARDS ON 24-7 and they let everyone in to the building. Also you don't get repairs done on a timely manner, have to fight for any repairs to get done.
I wouldn't recommend Region Housing to anyone. This just inn: i received a letter from housing claiming that i did not put rent renewal papers and subsequently said that i don't qualify for subsidy. Then she back out of that letter saying that there was a mistake in sending the letter. Now she is claiming that she does have my papers.
I AM ABSOLUTELY APPALLED WITH THIS INCOMPETENCE WITH HOUSING!!!

Why is it that Public Housing is the only place that does not provide 24hr property management/superintendent on the complexes the are in charge of. With the violence, garbage, lack of respect for property and rules and fellow tenants, housing across Canada has become one of the most dangerous places to live. Why is it that every other housing corp. in Canada will provide proper management, maintenance and supervision for the properties and their tenants, while Canada can not. What exactly do all the employees at housing do, every complex in this region has been neglected from supervision and is riddled with crime and garbage
