His workmanship was top calibre. He consistently did all those little "extras" that turn a good job, into a great job. Once the job was completed he left the work area spotless. He was very accomodating to the needs of a very busy house while he worked. I did radon testing using a short term three month testing kit because of a health Canada flyer in 2022. It came back at an average of 150 bq/l; so I decided to do more active monitoring using an Airthings monitor. I performed some rudimentary sealing of cracks, as best I could, and continued monitoring. My levels went down very modestly, and reading health Canada standards are lower than the us and many other places, I decided to keep my levels low.

I would monitor and open the windows to mitigate and dilute the radon. Although that works a lot of the time, it did not guarantee the reduction, and weather didn’t always allow for it.

I phoned a number of places to obtain quotes and get an understanding of the mitigation measures. This is where I met Gordon of 613Environmental. He did not do any hard sales pitch, he did not utilize scare tactics, or pressure to sign or commit to getting the work performed. He advised what I could do further beyond what I already did and if I felt it was needed, he could install a sub-slab radon mitigation system.

His quote was reasonable, and in retrospect, quite in line with the quality of service. He provided options for booking (a couple months out), and he arrived on the day he said he would.

He was respectful of my need for quiet for the first hour; diligently going over the parameter of my basement to seal any cracks. For the exhaust, he had a number of options that he involved me with, and in the end, I think we came to the best solution.

He welcomed any questions on the process and what he was doing. It was apparent he enjoyed the work, and making the install as clean as possible. He clearly explained the fan and how works. He tidied up nicely at the end of the day, and wanted to ensure that my levels were reduced prior to payment.

My levels went down to single digit levels within 24 hours, and have remained below 20 bq/l since. Will update after a longer period of monitoring.

I do not hesitate to recommend Gordon and his company for your radon mitigation needs.

What a pleasure it was dealing with 613 Environmental. Gord (the owner) is the consumate professional. Very considerate, thorough and meticulous with his work. He explained everthing that needed to be done and answered all my questions. When the work was completed the basement was as clean as it was before he got there. Its very clear that he takes great pride in his work. My readings averaged 356 bq/m3 before he did the remediation work. After he completed the job, the number was reduced to about 18 bq/m3. A 95% improvement! I'm so happy with the work he did and strongly recommend him to anyone needing radon gas remediation work. I now sleep peacefully at night knowing that this problem has been resolved. Thanks so much Gord!!

Excellent experience with Gord and 613 Environmental for radon mitigation! From his prompt and thorough communication, answering all questions; the on-site visit to explain the process and determine the best possible fan install location; to the detailed quote and follow up report, Gord was very knowledgeable and respectful to deal with. He and his colleague Rich did a great job on the installation and took good care in the home and on the property. Radon levels dropped dramatically overnight, and continue to average between just 6 and 10 Bq/m3, well below the Health Canada guideline of 200 Bq/m3. I contacted and met with two radon mitigation companies in Ottawa after tests revealed our home had elevated radon levels. I met the other company first, and after having met with Gordon, who was professional and patient with all of my questions and concerns, it was clear who I was going to choose. I was not wrong in my choice! Gordon was communicative with me in advance of the installation of the system, during the install, and afterwards. Despite some logistical difficulties due to the slab(s) design of our home, Gordon persevered and we worked collaboratively in deciding where the system was best placed to draw from underneath two slabs. Now that I have a radon detector (Ecoblu), Gordon is happy to incorporate my results in the coming weeks in his final report.
